"PayPal launched a new application on Facebook that allows users to use PayPal to send money starting from Facebook. All that is required is the recipient's email address. Users can visit the Send Money application page on Facebook and click on the "Get Started" button to install the application, and will be taken to the PayPal site to log-in or sign up for an account.
PayPal made a splash during its recent developers conference in November when it launched its global payments platform, PayPal X. The company announced that due to overwhelming global demand from users unable to attend the conference, it has decided to make the beta for Adaptive Accounts available to the public as well as the authentication and permissions APIs.
Osama Bedier, Vice President of PayPal Platform and Emerging Technology, was in France at the LeWeb conference last week where he was interviewed by blogger Om Malik about PayPal X (link to video interview).
PayPal is also continuing its push into China. Symbio announced it was sponsoring PayPal's China Developer & Partner Conference on December 14, 2009, in Beijing where PayPal will show attendees how to embed PayPal's secure global payment system into their applications and platforms. Last month, PayPal posted it was looking for a Country Product Manager to develop and manage the PayPal China platform to meet the needs of both eBay China users, as well the needs of off-eBay merchants.
