eBay Top Rated Seller Badge Advantages Sellers

Over one third of eBay sellers taking a survey in December reported that their sales had decreased as a result of the company's new Top Rated Seller program. However, eBay sellers whose listings included a Top Rated Seller (TRS) badge reported less of a negative impact that those whose listings did not display the badge.

Top Rated Seller is a new designation for sellers who meet certain criteria, replacing the PowerSeller logo that eBay visitors had previously seen when shopping on the site. AuctionBytes conducted a survey of readers in October 2009, and again in December 2009, to measure the effect of eBay's fall changes.

The December survey indicates that while a majority of sellers don't believe the TRS program accomplishes its goal of rewarding sellers who provide great buyer experiences (54%), having the TRS designation gives sellers an advantage over sellers who do not qualify for the program. For example, 35% of all respondents said their sales had decreased as a result of the TRS program, but only 23% of respondents whose listings display the TRS badge said their sales had decreased.

The results of the December survey are found in Sunday's AuctionBytes Update newsletter, and Monday's AuctionBytes Newsflash newsletter examined how larger sellers responded compared to smaller sellers.
