Following eBay's announcement of changes coming to the U.S. marketplace at the end of March, eBay UK announced changes affecting its marketplace. Unlike eBay.com, which announced a major restructuring of fees, the UK site had already eliminated the Stores inventory format and restructured fees; its spring 2010 changes center around seller performance, shipping requirements and other policies.
eBay is expanding international site visibility for UK sellers on eBay.com. Beginning March 29, 2010, eBay UK sellers will be able to purchase a listing upgrade that will enhance their visibility in the general search results for fixed price listings on eBay.com and eBay.ca. At the moment, this is available for auction-style listings only. More information is available here.
Beginning in April, eBay UK will lower the sales requirements for entering the PowerSeller program (a minimum of 100 UK & IE transactions per 12 months/minimum UK & IE sales volume of 2000 pounds per 12 months). At the same time, it will raise the minimum performance standard for selling on the site by instituting a maximum number of low ratings. More information on UK seller performance standards here.
eBay UK is imposing a maximum postage & packaging (P&P) limit in the Clothing & Shoes category effective March 29 (4 pounds for clothing and 6 pounds for shoes). eBay UK will also remove the free P&P requirement in Accessories, Media and other selected categories, introduced in 2009, which will be replaced with maximum postage limits. "Whilst many buyers responded positively to listings with free postage, many sellers asked for alternative options to prevent excessive postage charges - especially for listings in the auction-style format with a low starting price," the announcement stated. The new maximum limits to P&P charges in selected categories take effect February 8, 2010, more information is available here.
The remaining changes take effect the week of March 23. eBay is expanding the categories in which it allows multiple-quantity items in a single listing; new dispatch option for event tickets (up to 90 days); the availability of User ID watermarks for pictures; and sellers' product photos in catalogs.
