Etsy founder and CEO Rob Kalin outlined a two-month development roadmap on Monday. Included on the list of areas getting attention are site design, checkout, marketplace integrity, support, personalization, cookies, search and the API. In his post, he wrote, "We're devoting a lot of resources to improving the seller experience on Etsy. These projects are all labor intensive, and fall beyond the two-month window of this particular roadmap."
Mr. Kalin said Etsy is migrating to a new payments platform at PayPal called Express Checkout. "Our ideal Checkout is to have a single payment cover all purchases, even those from multiple sellers," he wrote. "This is on the horizon, as PayPal readies their split payments feature for Express Checkout."
Etsy is also doubling the size of its support team, from 10 to 20 people, and will begin to offer real-time support: first via online chat, and then on the phone, expected in June.
Etsy will add OAuth to the API, which will empower outside developers to build more powerful applications that can write data to Etsy. Initially, Etsy will support an Add to Favorites method, followed by others including Add to Cart, View Purchases and View Sales.
Etsy plans to release four more roadmaps in 2010, on May 1, July 1, September 1 and November 1. The current roadmap is available on the Etsy Storque blog.
