eBay Renames Kijiji Site eBay Classifieds, Launches Mobile Apps for Sellers

As predicted last year, eBay is renaming its hard-to-spell online classifieds site - Kijiji has become eBay Classifieds in the U.S. market. The re-launch is one more move in eBay's fight against competing classifieds site Craigslist, in which it owns a 28 percent share. President of eBay Marketplaces Lorrie Norrington said, "eBay Classifieds sets a new standard in the U.S. classifieds market, offering a trusted local community selling format for items that don't make sense to sell on the eBay marketplace, or when selling locally is preferable."

In conjunction with the re-launch, eBay announced two iPhone mobile apps for sellers - one for the eBay.com global marketplace (link to iTunes) and one for eBay's new classifieds site, eBayClassifieds.com (link to iTunes app). On April 3, eBay will launch a new version of the eBay app for iPad.

eBay launched Kijiji in the U.S. in 2007 after launching the brand internationally in 2005 - a year after acquiring a stake in Craigslist. The two companies are engaged in a power struggle and are currently awaiting a decision from a Delaware court before proceeding with another lawsuit in California.
