eBay UK is joining eBay.com in giving its clothing, shoes and accessories category a fashion makeover. For more than a year eBay has been doing its best to persuade branded retailers, distributors and manufacturers to create a presence on the site, and this month it is rolling out enhancements to draw in buyers.
eBay UK announced on Monday that it has renamed its Clothes Shoes & Accessories category "Fashion," one week after eBay.com did the same. eBay UK also renamed its Outlet tab at the top navigation bar, Fashion Outlet to promote items available directly from branded sellers.
eBay.com said last week it too would to launch a fashion outlet. According to a company moderator writing on this eBay.com discussion thread, "The Fashion Outlet, opening later in 2010, will be a one-stop destination for discounted branded merchandise, sourced direct from top brands. Brands will include Brooks Brothers, Aldo and Lord & Taylor (among many others). Unlike Fashion Vault, which is only open for 3 days at a time, the Outlet shops will be open indefinitely and merchandise will be restocked and/or swapped out by the brands seasonally. Once launched, the Fashion Outlet will be accessible from the new Fashion homepage."
To address questions from sellers about the relationship between eBay and retailers and where that left smaller sellers, the moderator wrote, "All sellers are important to providing the breadth of inventory and creating a marketplace for truly unique fashion merchandise. We appreciate the selection that sellers of all sizes bring to eBay."
eBay UK's Fashion page will have some of the same features as the eBay.com Fashion page, including gallery view, and a view "more like this" feature based on look, color and shape. And on both sites, eBay will feature the logos of retail and brand partners on their listings and in search results. eBay UK estimated the Clothes, Shoes and Accessories category receives visits from 2.5 million customers/month. The eBay UK announcement is found on the announcement board.
