eBay UK announced the Summer Seller Updates one day after eBay.com made its announcement in the U.S. The announcements were similar, but eBay UK had a special note about feedback, letting sellers know it was testing a new feedback system. The company also informed sellers about what it was doing to proactively protect them from feedback exploitation in which buyers extort or target sellers.
According to Wednesday's announcement, eBay UK would continue testing new options for leaving Feedback and how Feedback is presented on the View item and Feedback profile pages. The new options are aimed at simplifying the Feedback process while obtaining more accurate and objective responses from buyers. A screenshot of the new feedback form contained the following questions:
Did the item arrive by: date (yes/no)
Was the item what you were expecting? (yes/no)
Was the cost of shipping reasonable? Consider size, weight, and shipping distance. (yes/no)
How would you rate your experience with this seller? (on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being "Awful" and 10 being "Outstanding")
eBay UK said it would study the merits of the new system, and it would advised sellers of any amendments well in advance to ensure all members have enough time to understand the changes.
eBay UK also urged sellers to report cases of feedback abuse, and said it would send emails to buyers found to be leaving a large number of low detailed ratings in order to educate them on its impact to the seller and to inform them on how Feedback should be left.
"We noticed that you've left positive Feedback with low Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs) for several sellers lately. There may be times when this is appropriate, but in most cases DSRs and the overall rating should be consistent. More importantly, leaving low DSRs with positive Feedback could be viewed as an attempt to intentionally hurt a seller’s reputation. You aren't allowed to leave inaccurate Feedback just to harm a seller's reputation. If we find that this is happening, we'll take action."
According to eBay, buyers who continue to engage in such behavior or were found to be a business competitor would be suspended, including their related selling accounts, and their feedback removed.
eBay UK suggested sellers block buyers with Unpaid Item cases. "Sellers should consider using Buyer Requirements to block buyers with unpaid items or policy violation reports recorded against them."
