eBay Invites Users to Share Items on Facebook, Twitter and Digg

You would be forgiven if you didn't realize eBay listings included a Twitter and Facebook share function, since it's practically hidden behind a pull-down menu labeled "Share" located right next to the "Print" and "Report item" links. eBay added Twitter and Facebook to its "Share" feature on Item pages last October - "Share" had previously included only an email sharing function.

eBay has also recently added Facebook, Twitter and Digg icons to various eBay portal pages as another way for users to share items they like via social networks, this time with one click. The social networking features have been added to various eBay Fashion and eBay Motors pages, and eBay added the Facebook "like" button to Fashion Vault, Daily Deals pages and eBay Classifieds, according to eBay spokesperson Johnna Hoff.

eBay has also incorporated social networking into promotions, such as the eBay Motors Peoples Picks promotion currently running, and the Build Your Bling contest it ran in February in conjunction with Brides magazine in which participants were encouraged to customize and upload ring designs and share them with friends through social networking sites.

Johnna Hoff said eBay has been leveraging various social media platforms and inviting users to "share" items they like for some time, "so users can share their interests in various items with friends." Hoff said eBay would continue to add options for sharing listings and other eBay pages. With a "Senior Director of Marketing and Global Social Media" on its payroll, you can count on it.
