A new survey of eBay sellers reveals interesting data about who they would vote for in the upcoming California gubernatorial campaign - former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, or State Attorney General Jerry Brown. Jerry Brown got the majority of support among eBay sellers, 61%, while 26% favored Meg Whitman. eBay sellers who reported they were eligible to vote in the forthcoming California election were slightly more favorable to Whitman: 32% would vote for her, versus 55% for Brown.
The online survey of AuctionBytes readers was conducted between September 1 and September 5, there were 2470 respondents. The poll was designed to offer a quick snapshot of what AuctionBytes readers are thinking - respondents were also asked to leave comments.
AuctionBytes reader Marie D. said, "If Meg Whitman could do what she did for eBay for the state of California, she would also be a winner for the nation. Good luck, Meg!"
Reader Jenny W. said, "Meg would do the same kind of damage to the state of California that she did to eBay. Long term, never-ending. Jerry Brown was a great governor when he was in office before. Yes, things have changed but they have changed for the worse because of the kind of ideas that Meg wants to employ. She started off her campaign saying she was going to instantly lay off 40K people. Now she pretends she's going to create jobs but what she really wants to do is increase the bottom line of the people she loves - her fellow billionaires. She's not voted or been the least bit concerned with the political process in the past. What makes anyone think she would be an effective leader? She certainly was not on eBay."
Chris V. said, "Jerry Brown was an excellent governor of California back some 30 years ago; he is CURRENTLY an outstanding Attorney General for California. I also remember his 1992 Presidential bid - he was a very compelling candidate during the Democratic primaries. All of these reasons are about Mr. Brown's qualifications on his own merits - his Republican opponent presents on her own a myriad of reasons why she should not be elected governor (should not be allowed to buy the governorship) but her faults would go beyond the scope of this question."
Linda S. said, "I'm born and raised in California. I remember Gov. Jerry Brown when he was governor and I also remember his father, Pat Brown's terms of office. Jerry wasn't called "Gov. Moonbeam" without reason. I really like him but his politics are far too liberal and "out there" for our state. Especially now."
