eBay Live Rumor Central - Pt III
Rumors surfaced that eBay will have an eBay Penny Gallery Day promotion on
June 26th. Gallery is an optional listing feature for which there is an additional
fee. A link to this promotion can be found at http://www.ebay.com/promo/pennygalleryday/
eBay reports that auctions using the special Gallery feature have an 11% higher price on
average. The figure is based on sales from February 2002. When buyers browse categories or
search with keywords, they see Gallery items' photos directly in the result lists. Gallery
items stand out in the list and let buyers see what's being offered without another click.
When buyers click the Gallery Items Only tab, they see a catalog-like page showing photos
of Gallery items.
Some sellers have been expecting a Free Listing Day on eBay toward the end of June.
The rumors are that if eBay does have a Penny Gallery Day, a Free Listing Day would not
occur.

eBay Live! Rumor Central
Several rumors have permeated the floor of eBay Live in Anaheim. According
to sources, eBay is close to signing an agreement with Ruby Lane Antiques Mall. It's
not clear what type partnership has been formed, or whether it is an acquisition, but the
rumor is that eBay is pursuing Ruby Lane for high end antiques and collectible items over
$1000.
There is also an unverified story circulating that eBay is getting ready to
roll-out a new eBay Payments (BillPoint) program that will waive some auction fees if the
seller accepts eBay Payments.
