Well, they haven't sent us an email yet, and it looks like most won't affect us too radically, but they are still cheaper than most.

Life in these times,

Once again, it is the low-volume seller who takes the hit in the pocketbook. Seems to me that I heard on the news that the 3QTR04 eBay financial pictures was in the Billions (yes, with a B), and that of the 100 top-paid USA executives list, FIVE of them were eBay employees.

It is time to get serious about moving my store off site. I can make enough to cover the fees at ten bucks a month. But, to raise it so dramatically (that is about a 62% increase, if I am thinking clearly at the moment) is truly ridiculous.

Should they actually need additional fees for something, perhaps they should offer something in return, like listening to the seller's concerns.

While I have about 300 business cards left with my eBay store addy on them, I can certainly print out a note to place on the back with a new store URL on it! There are other places that won't cost as much to use.

Since eBay already allows actual businesses to sell on eBay, already cutting into the chances of a sale for the smaller guy, it seems that the increase should have been a smaller percentage, and shared across the board. While they are giving free listing days to the other domains, the US continues to get hit with fee after fee. Between eBay and PP, they eat quite a bit of any small profit I make at this point. PP is still cheaper than a regular merchant account, so I'll continue to use them. But, there is no reason to continue to stay on eBay when there are so many other venues (including a direct URL with PP buttons).

Truly, this is an extreme raise for the smaller store owner .
eBay, can't you see past the greed??

I may be mistaken, but I believe that anyone who sells more than $50 a quarter is considered to be "in business".

And if one takes a booth at a flea market, one pays a fee, plus all the time to pack, load, travel, unload, set up, load, travel, unload and if it is just one time, unpack. Makes the internet look cheap, heh???

In every state I know of, one is allowed only one garage sale a year without registering or paying sales tax.

If I am wrong, please accept my apology in advance.

I don't think greed has anything to do with being in business. Most of us are just making a living, and anyone who is rich would not be doing this. right?

Just my humble opinion...

This news of eBay's increases finalized my decision to close my store on eBay and open TWO on Wagglepop. The store is only $7.95 a month, listing and BIN are free. Gallery photos are 5 cents. Big difference, huh! I have been looking for the past several months for a better venue and finally found one.

My sell through rate has dropped by half since last year and for this, they want to charge me more, no way, Jose!

At least the 8% final value fee is only to store listings and not auction listings.......so far but I'm sure that's coming there too eventually.

Does not seem to have as much impact for UK sellers as the US guys, why alter the fees in one country and not another?

Personally if they put the shop fees up for UK sellers I would get rid of mine, I sell enough from it to cover the costs (just) and it is a nice 'extra' but not worth spending more than I am making on it.

Those selling on Ebay who can use another venue to sell are probably thinking seriously about doing so. And with good reason. Ebay is and always has been the 800 pound gorilla that can do as he/she pleases without needing to really consider their clients. Not many other businesses can do that. Not even MSFT.

Those of us too tied in to Ebay who can not make an easy transition will just suck it in and pay the higher fees knowing that soon they will be raised AGAIN.

Yes it IS good to be the king.

They don't sell at all because Wagglepop is a brand new site without any sales or traffic because they aren't even open yet.
