eBay CEO Meg Whitman took a road trip to Asia at the end of August, visiting eBay properties in Taiwan, Korea and China. The Taiwanese site is "going very well," according to an eBay spokesperson, who said eBay is establishing marketing relationships with portals in Taiwan including Yam Digital Technology. eBay launched "eBay Taiwan" in May after acquiring NeoCom Technology Co. Ltd., Taiwan's leading operator of auction-style Web sites, in February.
Whitman also visited Korea and China on her Asian trip. eBay acquired a majority interest in Internet Auction Co. Ltd., Korea’s largest auction-style Web site, last year, and in March, eBay acquired a 33% stake in China's EachNet, an online trading community.
eBay has sites in 20 countries and is counting on international sites to help it meet its goal of reaching $3 billion in revenue by 2005.
